Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Equine Dentist to join our Veterinary Medicine team. As an Equine Dentist, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive dental care to horses, ensuring their oral health and overall well-being. This role requires a strong background in equine dentistry, a deep understanding of equine anatomy, and the ability to handle horses with care and compassion. The Equine Dentist will work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and horse owners to deliver exceptional dental services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine dental examinations, including visual and manual assessment of the horse's oral cavity, teeth, gums, and related structures
- Diagnose and treat various dental conditions, such as malocclusions, periodontal diseases, and dental abnormalities, employing appropriate dental procedures
- Administer sedation and anesthesia as required to ensure the comfort and safety of the horse during dental procedures
- Utilize specialized tools and equipment to perform dental treatments, including routine floating, bit seat adjustments, extraction of diseased or damaged teeth, and application of dental prosthetics
- Provide guidance and education to horse owners on preventive dental care, dental hygiene practices, and diet management to maintain optimal oral health in horses
- Maintain accurate and detailed dental records of each patient, including treatment plans, procedures performed, and follow-up recommendations
- Collaborate with the veterinary team to coordinate comprehensive healthcare plans for horses, considering dental health as an integral part of overall wellness
- Stay updated with the latest advancements and research in equine dentistry, attending relevant conferences, workshops, and continuing education programs
- Adhere to all safety protocols, ensuring a clean and sterile dental environment, and proper handling and disposal of dental instruments and materials
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's or Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine from an accredited institution
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Veterinarian in the state in which you will practice
- Certification or advanced training in Equine Dentistry from a recognized institution
- Extensive experience in performing equine dental procedures, including routine floating, extractions, and dental prosthetic application
- Proficient knowledge of equine anatomy, oral health, and dental conditions commonly encountered in horses
- Ability to handle horses safely and effectively, demonstrating excellent horsemanship skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and guide horse owners on dental care practices
- Detail-oriented with exceptional record-keeping abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating effectively with veterinarians, technicians, and other staff members
- Commitment to maintaining professional development and keeping abreast of advancements in equine dentistry
